This is a course that was a requirement for my Journalism Studies minor. This course was unique because it placed emphasis on both developing the creative mind, as well as providing students with an opportunity to learn about effective communication in the workforce.
Additionally, other projects such as writing up mock policies, writing in professional contexts, crafting recommendation memos based upon presentations of chemical emerging contaminants, and drafting mock grant proposals have solidified my understanding of both the English language and the process of writing in professional contexts. As a component of the coursework, students were able to attain invaluable out of the classroom skills when they were assigned a crowdfunding campaign to pitch, compose and launch a fundraiser for an organization of our choosing, writing in professional contexts.
